State Announces Mobility Wallet Challenge, Michigan, 2022

The State of Michigan has released a request for proposals (RFP) for the Michigan Mobility Wallet Challenge. This initiative seeks to improve interoperability across transit services through:

1. Allowing transit users to pre-load funds or connect bank accounts into a single payment platform
2. Creating a streamlined mechanism for fare payment and collection

Partner agencies in the Michigan Mobility Wallet Challenge include the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the Office of Future Mobility and Electrification (OFME), the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), and the Michigan Poverty Task Force (PTF).

The Michigan Mobility Wallet Challenge is an opportunity to test Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solutions across the state. Projects deployed on this scale can encourage other states and communities to adopt similar initiatives across the United States. Hopefully, the Michigan Mobility Wallet Challenge can effectively demonstrate the value of payment integration on a larger scale.
