Metro Micro, LA Metro’s on-demand microtransit service, is expanding to two new zones: Highland Park/Eagle Rock/Glendale and Altadena/Pasadena/Sierra Madre. Through Metro Micro, customers can request point-to-point shared van rides anywhere within certain designated zones. Fares are $1 and can be paid via a credit card or stored value on a TAP card. New Metro Micro customers can have their first two rides be fare-free. Rides can be requested through the Metro Micro app, the Transit app, by phone, or online portal. With this expansion, LA Metro customers now have access to Metro Micro across seven unique zones. In both of these zones, Metro Micro will operate from 5:30 AM to 9:30 PM, seven days a week.
Metro Micro’s implementation and expansion is part of LA Metro’s larger NextGen Bus Plan, an effort by the transit agency to improve its bus network. As a demand-response transportation (DRT) service confined to specific geographies, Metro Micro can be a useful first-/last-mile mobility option for people, whether they are looking to travel long or short distances. This microtransit service has the potential to play an increasingly integral role in the transportation landscape across the Los Angeles Metropolitan area.
