Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is now providing two fare-free rides per day to Joppa neighborhood residents through a partnership with Uber, a transportation network company (TNC). Residents in this southern Dallas neighborhood can participate in this Joppa Rides program after submitting proof of residency to DART. Customers can request Joppa Rides in real-time through the Uber app or by calling a central reservation hotline. A trip on Joppa Rides can accommodate up to four passengers, and accessible vehicles are available on request for people with disabilities. Passengers must be at least 18 years of age in order to request a ride. Joppa Rides are available from 5 AM to 11 PM every day of the week. Customers can be dropped off at 15 designated locations, which include an elementary school, a bank, a medical center, various grocery and convenience stores, and the DART Ledbetter Station.
The City of Dallas is financially supporting the Joppa Rides program due to reconfigured bus routes and the closure of the Linfield Road at-grade crossing. Joppa Rides can help customers access important nearby destinations and other fixed routes on DART. When transferring to any fixed routes on DART, customers who use Joppa Rides must pay a full fare rate.
